Sailing World Championships 2018 - live on BBC
It’s so rare that sailing is ever on the TV in the UK that we thought we’d better blog about it! The World Championship medal races are on BBC from today for the next four days!
Despite the world being over 70% water, aside from Jane McDonald on her Cruise ships there’s precious little on tv about sailing, or even boats. So when the BBC finally decide to put something on the box, we all need to make sure we give them enough viewing figures to justify putting more on.
For the next four days, they’ll be televising the Sailing World Championship Medal races from Aarhus in Denmark – covering all the classes, and all of the big names (and big hopes).
From the UK, that includes the Olympic gold-medal winning pairing of Hannah Mills in the 470 (although with a new partner – Saskia Tidey is now racing the 49er FX – but you can also see her!).
They’re available live via the the red button, on the BBC website (during the afternoon) or via BBC iPlayer at your leisure.
Granted, it’s a different type of sailing to the sort of sailing you’ll be doing if you charter through PlainSailing.com (though it is possible to race in big ships, too), but any sailing on TV is good sailing for now.
Incidentally, some of the foiling windsurfing also looks pretty damn cool!
