Salerno
Italy

Charter your own private yacht or catamaran to explore the stunning Amalfi Coast and Gulf of Naples!
img
This itinerary is one of seven sailing itineraries, exclusively offered by PlainSailing.com, with the package including your own private yacht or catamaran, a skipper to steer the boat, a hostess to take care of cooking and cleaning, fuel, mooring fees in a marina each night, bed linen & towels, end cleaning, VIP early check-in & transfers to and from the Marina.

Our must-see highlights include:

Amalfi Coast - one of the most stunningly beautiful and romantic coastlines in the world, millions of people flock to the Amalfi coast to see the colourful buildings, historic towns, pretty beaches and enjoy the outstanding views out to sea.  It’s even better when viewed from your own private boat.

Capri - a island of decadence, luxury and exclusivity which is beloved by A-list celebrities, the rich and the powerful!  It’s famous as much for its great scenery as it is for the luxury shops, fine restaurants and being a major tourist attraction.

Naples - a city of culture, food and passion which stands at the foot of volcanic Mount Vesuvius.  The old town is a fantastically lively place for a stroll, and they make literally THE best pizza in the world (but then, they did invent it…). The city is also home to the majestic San Carlo theatre, and you can connect from here to see Pompeii.

Saturday - Getting on board

Hope you’re ready for an enchanting week? On arrival at the airport, we’ll take you by private transfer to our yacht marina in Salerno.  With our VIP check-in service, you should be on the boat before 2pm, which will give you time to get used to life on board a boat, to meet your skipper and hostess, to listen to a safety briefing, and, of course, to relax and enjoy the sunshine.

Sunday - Sailing to Capri

What a way to start - sailing alongside the Amalfi coast and enjoying the superlative views on offer, before sailing across to the crocodile-shaped Capri island and mooring up in the historic Marina Grande. Capri is a lavish holiday resort of the rich and famous, with spectacular views, and has been described as the most beautiful place on earth!

Monday - Sailing to Ischia

From Capri, it’s an island-hop with the wind in your sails across the gulf of Naples to delightful Ischia, which the Italians actually prefer to Capri - it’s just as nice, with the same picturesque views across the bay, but a lot less touristy, and a lot more affordable as a result.  There’s beaches, castles, thermal springs, monumental sized villas, fine gardens and plenty of classical architecture to admire.

Tuesday - Sailing to Napoli

Next you're sailing directly to Napoli, a city started by the ancient Greeks which sits at the bottom of the brooding Vesuvius volcano.  It’s a charmingly chaotic city, full of passionate people.  The old town or ‘Spaccanappoli’ is about as atmospheric as you can find in the Med, with washing being hung between buildings along the narrow cobbled streets.  You simply have to try the pizza: it is unreal!
img

Wednesday - Sailing to Sorrento

It’s only a short sailing trip from Naples to Sorrento, giving time to check out more of Naples, the excavations at Pompeii or Herculaneum, or explore what Sorrento has to offer.  Cliff-top Sorrento has been a seaside resort for over 150 years.  It is primarily known for its narrow alleyways, local markets, fine food and outstanding views - particularly at sunset.  And it’s limoncello!
img

Thursday - Sailing to Amalfi

Arguably the most picturesque day is when you’ll sail back along the Amalfi coast to delightful Amalfi itself.  Amalfi is a village which dramatically stumbles up the side of steep and rugged cliffs, and the colourful buildings are a wonder to behold.  The old town itself has a mixture of alleys, stairways and passages, and is a wonderfully romantic place to stroll at night - ideally with a gelato.
img

Friday - Sailing to Salerno

It will feel a lot longer than a week ago that you were sailing along the beautiful Amalfi coast from Salerno marina. Salerno used to be quite an important Italian city, and has an impressive old town with shopping streets that date back over two thousand years, a magnificent cathedral, two castles, and a number of grand parks and palaces.
img

Second Saturday - Disembarking

And then it’s time to say farewell to the boat, the skipper and the hostess.  To enable the boat to be ready for the next guests, you’ll have to disembark at 9am on Saturday morning and get a private transfer to head to the airport, or onwards to your next port of call.  Travelling by car will feel pretty mundane, so you’ll likely already be thinking about planning your next sailing holiday…
