Dubrovnik
Croatia

Charter your own private yacht or catamaran to explore the stunning islands in the Adriatic from Dubrovnik!

img
This itinerary is one of seven sailing itineraries, exclusively offered by PlainSailing.com, with the package including your own private yacht or catamaran, a skipper to steer the boat, a hostess to take care of cooking and cleaning, fuel, mooring fees in a marina each night, bed linen & towels, end cleaning, VIP early check-in & transfers to and from the Marina.

Our must-see highlights include:

Sipan - one of the glorious Elaphiti islands. Being just a short sail from Dubrovnik, they’re busy with day-trippers by day, but magically quiet at night. They all have outstanding scenery, pristine beaches and crystal-clear seas, but Sipan is the prettiest of them all.

Korcula - a super-impressive ancient walled medieval village, on an island. The whole island is now protected for its sheer beauty as a UNESCO world heritage site, and the historic narrow cobbled streets and impressive marble architecture are a joy to behold. Marco Polo was born here - it’s difficult to understand why he ever wanted to leave?!

Trstenik - The heart of the Croatian wine country, Trstenik is where they make the best Plavac Mali red wine. The mix of clifftops and vineyards makes for astounding views, which must surely add to the flavour of the grapes here. From the marina here, it’s only a short walk to the nearby famous Grgic vineyard, where you can sample the local produce.

your itinerary

We've spent years honing the perfect itinerary for a week of fantastic sailing - taking in all the must-see attractions, and mixing it with a few trips off the beaten-track.

Saturday - Getting on board

On Saturday you'll arrive at the airport, and we’ll take you by private transfer to the Marina in Komolac, Dubrovnik. With our VIP check-in service, you should be on the boat from 2pm, which will give you time to get used to life on board a boat, to meet your skipper and hostess, to listen to a safety briefing, and, of course, to relax and enjoy the sunshine.
img

Sunday - Sailing to Sipan

After a night on board to get your sea-legs, you’ll sail northwards along the coast before working your way through the Elaphiti Islands in the sunshine - possibly stopping for a quick dip on one of the exceptional beaches you see - before arrive at the old town of Sipan, on the largely unspoilt island of the same name. It’s a charming old town with a good choice of places to eat, and a relaxed pace of life.
img

Monday - Sailing to Pomena

You’ll be weaving through the islands with the wind in your sails, to the tranquil Pomena. This small village is off the beaten track - with just 50 inhabitants during winter - and is a chance to get back to nature, with lush vegetation, an abundance of wildlife, and unspoilt beaches. If you’re an explorer, there’s a lake a short hike from the marina, or there are the ruins of the old royal palace to discover.
img

Tuesday - Sailing to Korcula

You're heading to the stunning island town of Korcula. It’s a mesmerising place to view both from the sea or from the cobbled streets within the city walls. Originally an ancient Greek settlement, it was the Venetians who developed it into a labyrinthine town, even shipping Italian masters over here to paint the inside of their majestic cathedral. It was also the birth place of Marco Polo.
img

Wednesday - Sailing to Trstenik

Like Marco Polo, you're sailing out of Korcula - the coastlines are largely undeveloped, so the view probably hasn’t changed too much since he was sailing here in 1324. The destination is Trstenik, a small fishing village which is also at the heart of the wine-region of the country, surrounded by hillsides of vines and olives. The famous Grgic winery is based in Trstenik and is very, very drinkable.
img

Thursday - Sailing to Lopud

Next, you’ll sail to delightful Lopud, which some say is the most beautiful island in Croatia. It’s certainly idyllic, with its sandy beaches, pine forests, rugged coast and clear seas. The island has historically been a tourist resort reserved for local rich people, so there are some grand buildings and great restaurants, but the island is largely underdeveloped, and it is the ideal place to relax.
img

Friday - Sailing to Dubrovnik

It’s only a short sail back to Dubrovnik marina, but we’d recommend sailing further south to get a magnificent view of Dubrovnik from the sea, with its towering walls and fortifications. Dubrovnik was built by sailors, and it’s only if you arrive by sea that you see it's full glory. Then it’s time to head to the marina and have a once last look around Dubrovnik Old Town.
img

Second Saturday - Disembarking

And then it’s time to say farewell to the boat, the skipper and the hostess.  To enable the boat to be ready for the next guests, you’ll have to disembark at 9am on Saturday morning and get a private transfer to the airport if you’re returning home, or onwards to your next port of call.  Travelling by car will feel pretty mundane, so you’ll likely already be thinking about planning your next sailing holiday…
