Where to charter from: Corfu

What do you think of when you think of Corfu? The historic old town (once commanded by the British, and made famous by British writers and artists, who appreciated the weather and the culture)?

All-inclusive resorts serving English breakfasts and fish & chips?  Or maybe the outstanding beaches, which bustle with tourists from all over Europe during the summer season?  There’s also Kavos, a renowned party-town where our students often head to to let off steam?

The truth is that it’s all of that, and more – the island offers something for everyone, and everyone will be able to find some happiness there.

But it’s also brilliant as a place to charter a yacht from: Corfu is a big sailing base, so there’s a great range of boats or catamarans available - at competitive prices – and a range of beautiful and secluded anchorages around the island which offer a perfect place to swim, sunbathe, lunch, or overnight.

In terms of cruising, there’s the incredibly picturesque islands of Paxi and Anti-paxos, which are only reached by boat and which combine amazing nature and cliffs with traditional excellent Greek hospitality.  Further afield, there’s Parga, with its venetian castle, Lefkas, with it’s stunning white cliffs and superb beaches, and Preveza on the mainland – all of which are well worth mooring up to.  If you’re feeling ambitious, you can get to Kefalonia and back in a week – though you’ll need strong winds and/or determination to get there as it’s a fair slog away if the winds are quiet.

All in all, Corfu offers everything you could want from a yacht charter holiday – with sun, sea, sailing, islands, beaches, Greek food, and plenty of scope for fun – plus it’s very well connected to the UK and mainland Europe, with a number of low cost airlines flying in and out of Corfu airport.
